The series has given a boost to Youku.com, part of a fast-growing Chinese online video industry. Dozens of sites, some independent and others run by Chinese television stations, show local and imported programmes such as The Good Wife and The Big Bang Theory.

Youku.com says that after two weeks, total viewership for the Sherlock third season premiere had risen to 14.5 million people. That compares with the 8 to 9 million people who the BBC says watch first-run episodes in Britain. The total in China is bumped up by viewers on pay TV service BesTV, which also has rights to the programme.

Appearing online gives Sherlock an unusual edge over Chinese dramas. To support a fledgling industry, communist authorities have exempted video websites from most censorship and limits on showing foreign programming that apply to traditional TV stations. That allows outlets such as Youku to show series that might be deemed too violent or political for state TV and to release them faster.

Indeed, Frozen looks like just another Disney princess movie. It has all the glorious settings, the storybook characters, and songs fit for a classic musical. The animation is simply great — ice has never looked so good and everything is made with attention to detail.

Disney’s “Frozen,” directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, won the Oscar for animated feature Sunday.

Loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Snow Queen,” the film centers on Anna (voiced by Kristin Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), sister princesses of Arendelle. When Elsa accidentally unleashes an eternal winter upon Arendelle after an emotional outburst at her coronation, she flees the kingdom and Anna sets off to search for her in order to save their homeland and mend their relationship. Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Santino Fontana also lend their voices to the film.

This was the first nomination for Jennifer Lee, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. Chris Buck was previously nominated for 2007’s “Surf’s Up.” “Get a Horse!,” which accompanied “Frozen” in the theaters, was also nominated in the animated short category.

The other nominees were “The Croods,” Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders’ film about a prehistoric family who ventures out to find a new home when their cave is destroyed; “Despicable Me 2,” Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud’s sequel that follows former criminal Gru as he reluctantly works with the Anti-Villain League to stop a new super-villain; “Ernest & Celestine,” directed by Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar and Benjamin Renner, about the unlikely friendship between a mouse and a bear; and “The Wind Rises,” Hayao Miyazaki’s film about Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Zero fighter plane used by the Japanese in World War II.

The 86th Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Ellen DeGeneres is hosting the televised ceremony.

Compared with his historical epics, such as Back to 1942 and Aftershock, which, to me, looked impressive but lacked a certain edge, I prefer Feng’s more satirical and humorous works that made him famous to begin with.

In that context, Personal Tailor took me back to an earlier Feng. The ingenious premise involves a small group of four people — Yang Zhong (Ge You), the “director of dreams” and his resourceful employees Miss Bai (Bai Baihe), the “fantastician” who designs dream scenarios, Lu Xiaolu (Li Xiaolu), the “caterer of whims”; and Ma Qing (Zheng Kai), the “spiritual anesthetist”.
